I have been told for many times by my colleagues that learning Rust is a waste of time. Today, I would like to share some point of views about this language and the reason why I spend my time to learn this new language after work.
Rust’s advantage
I believe that there is a bunch of essays and blogs talking about how Rust awesome is. For example, high performance, memory safety ( mostly of time, you can still write unsafe code if you want to :) ), extremely fast async programming, yada yada yada. I am not in interest about telling any old story.
The main reason which driven me to learn Rust is the performance.
Serverless System on Cloud and Time is Money!!
Time is money! This is a famous aphorism which told people to not waste time. This aphorism also works on Cloud Environment too!
Rust is famous for it’s performance and the little memory consuming. Using Rust in cloud environment can save lots of time and memory, it can safe us a huge of money.
Second, better performance consume less energy. Global warming is having great impact to our life. The diagram below indicate that rust’s energy consumption is about 75 time less than Python! Isn’s it Amazing, hru?!

Last but not the least, I believe that Rust language will become more and more popular in the future in Taiwan. There is a lot of Blockchain-related company using Rust as main language nowadays. And I believe developers will love how fast and safety Rust Language can be.

This is my life motto. I believe everything in our life has it’s own meaning but we haven’t’ figure them out yet. Maybe someday I will use Rust in my job or maybe I won’t. But, it doesn’t matter! The matter thing is that this is the way I lived!
I’m not afraid of wasting my time to Learn something but afraid of wasting my time to do nothing. Learning will never be a waste of time!
I love to learn new stuff and challenge. And I will keep learning till the universe explode :)
